The Kwara State High Court has summoned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris to appear before it on Wednesday next week to answer questions on the continued detention of Lekan Alabi, the Personal Assistant to the Kwara State Governor, Abdulfattah Ahmed
Alabi was arrested by the police in connection with the April 5, 2018 armed robbery of some banks in Offa, where over 30 persons were killed.
This was as the lead counsel to the suspect, Ibrahim Adelodun bemoaned the failure of the Police to release another suspect, Babatunde Abdul-Wahab, the Chief of Staff to the Governor over the same incident but who has been granted bail by another High Court in the state.
Briefing newsmen shortly after the court proceedings, Adelodun, who led four other lawyers told newsmen that the refusal of the police to obey the court order on Abdul-Wahab was worrisome.
He said such condemnable acts portend grave dangers to the deepening of democracy in Nigeria as it might lead to a loss of confidence in the fairness of the police to handle such cases.
Although the Police was not represented at the proceedings, Adelodun told the court that they had summoned Idris and that all the processes related to the case had been served on him.
