Former governor of Jigawa State and presidential aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party, Alhaji Sule Lamido says the opposition party will not change its name to please certain elements that defected to its fold.
Addressing proposed delegates to next month’s National Convention of the party, Lamido said he and other founding members of the party resisted the attempt to change the party’s name and logo, adding that anyone who was not satisfied with the status quo could exit its fold.
“The PDP remains the only party with well-defined ideology. Between 1999 and now, all the other political parties have changed their names in the quest to wrestle power from the PDP,” Lamido said.
On the recent defection of Senator Godswill Akpabio to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Lamido said the former Minority Leader defected to the APC for ‘protection’, alleging that the APC government showed Akpabio some files which frightened him.
“It is a disgrace for the APC government to give former governor Akpabio the type of reception he was given. It shows that the government is not serious about fighting corruption,” he added.
