Former Akwa Ibom governor and Minority Leader of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio is set to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday, August 8.
Confirming the development on Monday, the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly Affairs (Senate), Ita Enang said Akapbio would be received into the APC on Wednesday at the Ikot Ekpene Stadium in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State.
Enang hinted that Akpabio is expected to cross over to the ruling party along with four other serving senators and several members of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.
There were speculations that Akpabio’s defection was delayed because he was negotiating for some favourable terms for himself and his political supporters in the state.
It is also alleged that Akapbio was asking for the position of the Senate President and also that he should be made the APC leader in Akwa Ibom State and the party’s political structure handed over to him.
