Amidst the rising death toll arising from floods in some parts of the country, the Nigerian Government has assured that the situation had been brought under control as water levels across the affected areas had gone down, especially in Lokoja, Kogi State.
This assurance was given by the Minister of Water Resources, Sulaiman Adamu while briefing State House correspondents shortly after Wednesday’s weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting which was chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
“l was able to brief Council in the latest flood data. The water level in Lokoja had dropped by 6 centimetres and the water level in Lagdo dam in Cameroon is also going down.
“So, we think that the worst is over, unless if any unforeseen incident occurs now. We should be able to see most of the flood waters go down from now on,” the Minister said.
The Council equally approved the sum of ₦459 million for the procurement of laptops, computers and laser printers for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), even as it okayed the sum of ₦612 million for the augmentation of the Cham Dam project in Gombe State.
The FEC also approved the sum of $64 million for the award of contracts for the supply of power to the contiguous communities around the Escravos areas and the Escravos to Lagos Pipeline system.
