Former Governor of Kano State and until last Saturday, presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has allegedly threatened to dump the party after a disagreement.
Kwankwaso, who rejoined PDP only some months ago was reported to have said that he would walk away if the party’s leadership removed any member of his Kwankwasiyya Movement from the list of aspirants contesting in his native Kano State.
According to reports, the Senator was upset after parallel primaries were held by another PDP faction in the state with the aim of presenting its own candidate for the gubernatorial election.
This came after primaries in which candidates, including his son-in-law who were handpicked by himself emerged winners.
However, the decision of the national leadership of the PDP to review the list of both factions was what angered the former governor who then threatened to quit the party after a two-hour deadlocked meeting with stakeholders of the party.
Kwankwaso was reported to have told the gathering that any move to remove any member of Kwankwasiyya from the aspirants’ list would lead to his defection from PDP, even as the Doguwa-led faction also threatened to dump the party if the leadership failed to review the list of aspirants.
