The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress on Tuesday withdrew the clearance given to former Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba to contest the primaries for Jigawa South Senatorial District.
The name of the former police boss was initially among the list of aspirants cleared to contest the primaries but few hours later, the Acting National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Yekini Nabena issued a statement saying that Abba’s name was erroneously included in the list of NWC-cleared aspirants.
Among prominent politicians across Nigeria cleared by the APC to contest senatorial primaries were governors Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, his Nasarawa State counterpart, Tanko Al-Makura and Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari of Zamfara State.
Also cleared to contest the primaries is Governor Ibrahim Gaidam who is the sole candidate for Yobe East Senatorial District as well as Governor Ibikunle Amosu who is contesting the Ogun Central Senatorial seat.
Surprisingly, despite his prolonged rift with the Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-ARufai, Senator Shehu Sani got the automatic ticket as sole candidate of the APC for Kaduna Zone 2.
Equally lucky was the immediate past National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Dayo Adeyeye who was given an automatic ticket as the party’s sole candidate for Ekiti South.
