A nine-man disciplinary committee set up by the All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker Committee in Imo State has recommended the expulsion of the state governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha for engaging in anti-party activities.
According to a letter signed by the committee’s chairman, Matthew Omeghara and Secretary, Kevin Ugwu which was made available to newsmen in Owerri, Okorocha was accused of sponsoring and financing the governorship campaign of his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu of the Action Alliance (AA).
“The Committee has patiently and painstakingly listened to the overwhelming evidence of Prince Ikechukwu Unegbu and examined all electronic and media materials tendered and admitted in evidence against His Excellency Rochas Okorocha in which the governor was accused of anti-party activities and found as follows.
“That there are overwhelming and incontrovertible evidence of anti-party activities against Governor Rochas Okorocha.
“That Okorocha is openly and brazenly sponsoring, financing, campaigning for his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu, who is the gubernatorial candidate of Action Alliance, (AA),” the statement read in part.
Citing sections of the APC constitution, the letter continued: “The action of His Excellency, Anayo Rochas Okorocha contravenes article 21 (A) i-vi of the APC constitution (October 2014 as amended) punishable under article 21 D (i) (g).
“This is therefore the recommendation of the APC disciplinary committee that His Excellency, Governor Rochas Okorocha be expelled from our great party.”
The Caretaker Chairman, Marcons Nlemigbo and the National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole already have their dates with the court where they will have to explain where they derived their authority to violate a subsisting court ruling which affirmed the election of the current executive as the authentic leadership of the APC in Imo.
However, the State Chairman of the party, Daniel Nwafor condemned the Committee’s recommendation, arguing that the Caretaker Committee set up by Adams Oshiomhole was an illegality and as such, every activity of the committee was illegal.
Nwafor said: “You do not build something on nothing. There is no way an illegal contraption can create anything legal. So I urge you to discountenance the Caretaker Committee, the Disciplinary Committee and their so called recommendations. It is an exercise in futility.”
