Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have reportedly intercepted and seized a vessel in the Gulf for allegedly attempting to smuggle 25, 000 litres of diesel fuel to the United Arab Emirates.
According to the Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA), the vessel was detained near Iran’s Greater Tunb Island in the Persian Gulf, adding that the crew had been handed over to legal authorities in the Southern Hormozgan Province. The agency did not however disclose the nationalities of the crew members.
The seizure comes after Iran was blamed for a drone attack which significantly damaged oil facilities in Saudi Arabia and also follows a tit-for-tat seizure of oil tankers in previous months.
