The Federal Government has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr celebration.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government, according to a statement issued on Tuesday.
Congratulating Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan, the minister urged them to uphold the values of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice emphasized during the fasting period.
He also called on Nigerians across religious and ethnic divides to use the festive period to pray for the nation’s peace, unity, and continued prosperity.
The minister further encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and extend acts of kindness to the less privileged in society.
Reaffirming its commitment to national cohesion, the Federal Government said it remains dedicated to promoting peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians.
