The sit- at-home ordered today by secessionist group, IPOB throughout Igboland in solidarity with, and protest for the release of detained Biafran independence leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from DSS detention is fully effective this Monday morning.  Social and commercial activities in the city of Enugu have ground to a halt.

All schools, including government schools, are closed. The few teachers who could be seen in some schools are those invigilating ongoing   NECO examination. Even then, they had to trek several kilometres in most cases to get to their assigned schools since commercial vehicles are off Enugu roads this morning. The only vehicles visible on the roads are those operated by security personnel.

Big and famous Enugu markets like Afor Awkunanaw  which is very proximate to the 103 Nigerian Army Battallion Barracks, the Ogbete Main Market and Kenyatta Market are all under lock and key. Banks have also closed their doors for security reasons.

Hotels and other public concerns have also shut their doors to the public. Even state and federal government offices are closed.

However, security for now appears sparse. Army and police patrol vans are coursing through empty streets. There is no sign as yet that any persons or group are interested in making trouble.
