The Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State Oversight has summoned the state’s Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), to appear before it for an interactive session scheduled for Thursday.

According to a statement released Wednesday by the House of Representatives Spokesman, Akin Rotimi, the session will be held at 4 p.m. in Room 414 of the House of Representatives New Building, National Assembly Complex, Abuja.

The invitation follows the recent inauguration of a 21-member committee led by House Leader, Professor Julius Ihonvbere. The committee was established in response to the National Assembly’s resolution endorsing President Bola Tinubu’s proclamation of a state of emergency in Rivers State.

“This engagement is necessary to ascertain the true state of affairs in Rivers State and ensure that the House remains properly guided in the discharge of its oversight responsibilities in the public interest,” Ihonvbere stated.

President Tinubu declared the state of emergency amid an ongoing political crisis in the oil-rich South-South state. As part of the emergency measures, Tinubu suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and members of the State Assembly. He subsequently appointed Vice Admiral Ibas as the sole administrator to oversee the state’s affairs.

The interactive session is expected to shed more light on the evolving situation in Rivers State and guide the House’s future actions.
