Mrs. Florence Ifeoma Okorji has broken new grounds in the area of education as a result of her strong passion for improving the standard and quality of education in Nigeria. Mater Dei Educational Consult which was created as a result of her vision, has supervised the training of over two hundred education stakeholders including teachers, school heads, administrators and school owners. She serves as an education consultant and has mentored several institutions.
Mrs. Okorji has been recognized for her educational pursuits, achievements and notable contributions to the growth of education. She has huge passion for continuous professional learning which has transcended to her staff members (about 100 personnel) and everyone who comes in contact with her. The staff of Mater Dei School Lagos (the school she founded) have been formed to always keep themselves abreast of the new and ever – changing trends in education and teaching styles in Nigeria and internationally.
As a life-long learner who practices the system of ‘learning, unlearning and relearning,’ Mrs. Okorji has engaged in several trainings, workshops, coaching sessions and attained valuable certifications in this regard.
She has a burning desire for support for the female gender (women supporting women) which birthed the inception of LIKE MINDS FORUM in 2018. It is a physical community of over 15 female school owners who support, encourage and motivate one another.
Also, she is the brain behind WOTAI (Women of Thrift Investment), a female forum which is focused on supporting each other financially in form of a saving scheme. However, there could be more to this agenda in the near future as time evolves.
She is also spiritually active and handles some activities/offices in the Christian fold. She is a certified Family Life therapist from the Institute of Family System & Engineering Inc. – 2018.
Mrs. Florence Ifeoma Okorji was born in the mid-70s into Akaegbusi family in Onitsha, Anambra State. She is the first child of the family of five (5) with a Christian background. Mrs. Okorji founded Mater Dei School in 2008.
She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Lagos in 2000. After the completion of her mandatory one – year National Service (NYSC) in 2002, she decided to pursue her lifelong passion of setting up an educational institution.
To adequately equip herself for this, she obtained a Diploma in Early Childhood Education (2 ½ – 6 Years) from The College of Modern Montessori (Teacher Training College) in the theory and application of Montessori Method of Education in 2011. She also bagged a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (International) from the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom in 2014.
Mater Dei School, her brain child is situated in Satellite Town, Lagos State. It consists of a Preschool and Elementary School with a total population of about three hundred (300) pupils.
The institution expanded recently (Sept 2021) with the establishment of a new branch in the Amuwo Odofin axis of Lagos State which also consists of the two academic units stated above.
The school also has an educational consult “Mater Dei Educational Consult,” a consulting arm that was established to provide customized training and consultancy solutions to the education sector.
Ifeoma is happily married to Chief Chukwudi Okorji and the marriage is blessed with children.
It is in recognition of her accomplishments in the sphere of Development, Management and Delivery of Quality Education in Nigeria that Mrs. Florence Ifeoma Okorji was deemed worthy to be conferred the Nigerian Achievement Award.
