President Muhammadu Buhari has bestowed National Honours on president-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Vice President-elect, Kashim Shettima, during a ceremony held at the State House Conference Center in Abuja. Tinubu and Shettima were honored with the prestigious titles of Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR) and Grand Commander of the Order of Niger (GCON), respectively.

The investiture is part of a series of events leading up to the May 29 inauguration ceremony.

In addition to the conferment of National Honours, the official handover of Transition Documents to the incoming Administration is scheduled to take place today. This crucial process, facilitated by Executive Order 14 signed by President Buhari, is expected to be the most organized and seamless Presidential Transition in Nigeria’s history.

According to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, who also serves as the Chairman of the Presidential Transition Council, a thought-provoking Inauguration Lecture titled “Deepening Democracy for Integration and Development” will be delivered by His Excellency Uhuru M. Kenyatta, former President of Kenya, on Saturday, May 27.

Following this, a Children’s Day Program, featuring a parade and a festive celebration for kids, will be held. The schedule of activities for the 2023 Presidential Inauguration also includes an Inter-denominational Church Service at the National Christian Centre on Sunday, May 28, at 10:00 am. Later that day, an Inauguration Dinner/Gala Night will be held at the State House Conference Centre.

On Monday, May 29, the much-anticipated Inauguration Parade and Swearing-In ceremony will take place at the Eagle Square, commencing at 10:00 am. This will be followed by a Post Inauguration Luncheon. Boss Mustapha assured the public that comprehensive arrangements have been made to ensure the safety and security of all individuals throughout the inauguration period.
