In a move aimed at upholding transparency and accountability within the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), President Bola Tinubu has granted approval for the indefinite suspension of the EFCC Chairman, AbdulRasheed Bawa. The decision was made to facilitate a thorough investigation into allegations of misconduct during his tenure.

A statement issued by Willie Bassey, the Director of Information at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, shed light on the weighty allegations of abuse of office that have been levied against Bawa. The suspension was deemed necessary to ensure a fair and comprehensive examination of the claims.

The statement further clarified that Bawa has been directed to immediately transfer the responsibilities of his position to the Director of Operations within the Commission. The Director will assume the role of overseeing the functions of the Chairman’s office until the investigation reaches its conclusion.

Earlier in the day, the EFCC Chairman had a scheduled meeting with President Tinubu at the State House. The suspension follows the recent suspension and subsequent arrest of CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele by the Department of State Services (DSS).
