Femi Gbajabiamila, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, has tendered his resignation, marking the end of his tenure as a member of the 10th House. Reports indicate that Gbajabiamila formally presented his resignation letter during a session on the House floor, with the newly-sworn in Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, reading it aloud on Wednesday.

Following his departure from the House, Gbajabiamila is set to embark on a new chapter of his political career as he assumes the position of Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, effective immediately. This transition reflects the trust and confidence placed in Gbajabiamila’s abilities to serve in a key advisory role within the executive branch.

Just a day prior, Gbajabiamila and his fellow lawmakers were inaugurated amid much fanfare and expectations.

As a consequence of Gbajabiamila’s departure, the vacant seat representing Surulere 1 constituency necessitates a fresh election to determine its next occupant. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the statutory body responsible for overseeing elections in the country, will be responsible for organizing and conducting this crucial electoral process.
