Operatives from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) recently made significant seizures in various locations, successfully intercepting imported consignments of a potent cannabis strain known as Loud. These operations took place along the Epe-Lekki corridor and at the Alfa beach, Lekki area of Lagos state.
Acting on credible intelligence, the diligent NDLEA operatives set up an ambush along the Epe-Lekki expressway on Monday, June 19th. Their target was a white truck carrying 50 jumbo bags of the illicit substance, totaling 2,434.1 kilograms. In a remarkable display of skill, the anti-narcotics officers managed to disable the truck and apprehend the illicit cargo, despite the truck driver’s attempt to flee in a security hilux van.
Continuing their success, the Marine Command of the Agency, acting on another tip-off, intercepted a boat loaded with a similar imported substance weighing 2,910 kilograms at Alfa Beach on Tuesday, June 20th. The boat had arrived from Ghana, and the officers promptly arrested two individuals, Monday Saba (30) and Hakeem Kwana (27), who were found with the illicit consignments.
Further arrests were made in Niger state on Sunday, June 18th, when two suspects, Abubakar Mohammed (32) and Nuhu Sale (43), were apprehended along Abuja expressway, Suleja. The suspects were found in possession of 31 jumbo bags of skunk, weighing 517 kilograms. In a separate incident on Wednesday, June 21st, a 30-year-old woman named Amina Alilu was arrested in Ogbogodo village, Dekina LGA, Kogi state, with 171 kilograms of the illicit substance.
In yet another operation, a suspected fake female security agent named Ogedegbe Dorcas (34) was nabbed on Thursday, June 22nd, at Ajegunle Asa Dam Area of Ilorin, Kwara State. She was found in possession of 30 kilograms of cannabis. Additionally, in Oyo state, NDLEA operatives intercepted Segun Olajide (42) on Saturday, June 24th, in Oyo town, with 49.2 kilograms of the same substance.
In a proactive move, operatives in Edo state took action against a cannabis farm located in Ekudo forest, Uhunmwode LGA. The team destroyed the farm, which spanned 2.494863 hectares, and recovered 67 kilograms of processed weeds. Furthermore, they arrested six suspects during this operation: Onyeka Onyedinma, Monday Onyedi, Alex Eboh, Edosa Imariagbe, Godbless Tunde, and Godstime Osarobo.
The Chairman/Chief Executive of the Agency, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), commended the officers and men of the Lagos, Kogi, Niger, Kwara, Oyo, Edo, and Marine Commands for their remarkable efforts in preventing over five tons of illicit substances from circulating within the country over the past week. He urged all NDLEA personnel across different formations to remain dedicated to the collective mission of eliminating substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking from Nigeria.
