Nigeria’s 36 states and Federal Capital Territory generated a total of N1.93 trillion in internally generated revenue (IGR) in 2022, according to new data from the National Bureau of Statistics.
The report shows Lagos, Rivers and FCT leading revenue collection with N651.15 billion, N172.89 billion, and N124.4 billion respectively. Meanwhile, Kebbi, Taraba and Yobe states recorded the lowest IGR at N9.1 billion, N10.2 billion, and N10.5 billion.
Taxes made up the bulk of state revenues, with Pay As You Earn being the biggest contributor at 67.62%. Capital gains tax accounted for just 0.24% of tax revenue nationally.
In local government revenue, Oyo, Lagos and Jigawa topped the list with N11.83 billion, N11.51 billion, and N8.70 billion collected respectively.
