President Bola Tinubu requested support from German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Sunday to combat terrorism in Nigeria. At a meeting in Abuja, Tinubu said more assistance is needed despite progress made against extremist groups.

The president noted recent coups in Africa, saying Nigeria is using diplomacy to manage the situation. He thanked Germany for past security training and law enforcement support but emphasized the need for continued cooperation.

Following the Supreme Court verdict affirming his election, Tinubu said his administration will now focus on good governance and economic opportunities for Nigerians. He described the court distraction as over and said his team is ready to partner with Germany as Nigeria’s largest economy.

Scholz expressed Germany’s commitment to democracy and rule of law worldwide. He said Germany will examine ways to further support Nigeria on security issues. Scholz noted potential for economic cooperation beyond oil and gas, such as investments in hydrogen energy.
