The Senate on Wednesday confirmed Ola Olukoyede as the new Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Olukoyede’s appointment comes after months of shakeups in the leadership of the country’s leading anti-graft agency. Former EFCC Chairman Abdulrasheed Bawa was suspended in June over allegations of misconduct. Bawa was replaced in an acting capacity by Abdulkarim Chukkol.

The upper chamber also confirmed Muhammad Hammajoda as the new Secretary of the EFCC. Both men were nominated for their posts last week by President Bola Tinubu.

In addition, the Senate screened and approved Halima Shehu’s appointment as Chief Executive Officer of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA).

According to presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale, Olukoyede will serve a renewable four-year term as EFCC Chairman. Hammajoda will serve a five-year renewable term as Secretary.
