The Court of Appeal on Tuesday in Abuja overturned the election of Nasarawa State House of Assembly Speaker Ibrahim Balarabe on Tuesday.
The appellate court ruled that Ibrahim Abdullahi Sa’ad of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was the legitimate winner of the March 18th polls for the Umaisha/Ugya constituency.
Balarabe, a chieftain of the state’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), was declared winner by the electoral commission earlier this year. However, Sa’ad challenged the result in court.
In its decision, the Court of Appeal determined sufficient evidence showing voting irregularities that questions Balarabe’s victory. Citing non-compliance with electoral guidelines, the court nullified the previous result.
