Dr Aderemi Michael Adelaja is a seasoned and diligent physician. He is highly trained and experienced in kidney transplantation as well as the management of patients with chronic kidney disease, end-stage renal disease, hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, acute kidney injury, electrolyte disorders, urolithiasis, and other internal medical conditions.
Aderemi is in active medical practice as Consultant Internal Medicine Physician and Nephrologist at the high-brow St. Nicholas Hospital, Lagos. His experience in his specialty is as vast as his extensive training.
Dr Aderemi Adelaja, an indigene of Ogun State was born on the Lagos Island on November 9, 1977. His early education was at Oworonsoki Primary School, Oworonsoki, Bariga, Lagos. Afterwards, he attended Macjob Grammar School Abeokuta. He was admitted into Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, Ogun State in 1992 and he graduated with a National Diploma (ND) in Science Laboratory Technology in 1994.
He earned the degree of Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago – Iwoye, Ogun State. He qualified as Fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College in Internal Medicine (Nephrology) in June 2017.
Adelaja was a Medical Officer at Havana Specialist Hospital, Surulere, Lagos from 2006 to 2009. He was Chief Resident at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, Osun State from 2012 to 2016.
From 2013 to 2016, he was Nephrology Resident at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex, Ile – Ife, Osun State.
Aderemi Adelaja has always stood out from the crowd wherever he found himself. He has enjoyed a lot of recognition as a result of that. For instance, he was the Best Overall Student in the Junior Secondary School Certificate Examination in 1988. He represented his school on several occasions at JETS Club competitions. He also participated in state debates and quiz competitions for secondary schools. He won awards in these activities.
He was Senior Prefect in his secondary school and Chief Resident of Internal Medicine Department of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Osogbo. At St. Nicholas Hospital, he is Lead of the Infection Prevention and Control Unit.
Dr Adelaja is a member of many important professional bodies in his field. They include the Nigerian Association of Nephrology, the African Association of Nephrologists and the European Renal Association – European Dialysis and Transplant Association (ERA – EDTA).
It is in recognition of his contribution to national development in the field of Human Medicine (Nephrology) that Dr Aderemi Michael Adelaja was deemed worthy to be conferred with the Development in Nigeria Merit Award which is part of the PSR National Awards.
