The governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has had his election affirmed by the Supreme Court.
The appellants, Ladi Adebutu and the Peoples Democratic Party, had sought the court’s intervention to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct fresh elections in 99 polling units where voting was allegedly canceled. The Appeal Court, Lagos Division, had previously upheld Abiodun’s re-election on November 24, 2023, in a split decision.
The majority judgment, delivered by Justice Joseph Ikyegh, dismissed the appeal filed by the PDP and its gubernatorial candidate. Justice Tijani Abubakar, reading the lead judgment, also dismissed the appeal.
