In a significant move aimed at curbing the cost of governance, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has given the green light for the adoption of the Orosanye Report for implementation. Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made this announcement during a briefing with State House correspondents following the FEC meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Idris elaborated that the adoption of the report entails the scrapping of certain agencies, commissions, and departments of the government, merging some, subsuming others under different entities, and relocating certain functions to new ministries with the aim of enhancing performance.
“In a very bold move today, this administration, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, consistent again with his courage to take very far-reaching decisions in the interest of Nigerians, has taken a decision to implement the so-called Orosanye Report,” stated Idris.
He further clarified that the adoption of the report does not imply job losses for personnel in the affected agencies and departments. Instead, it signifies a strategic restructuring of government operations and aligns with President Tinubu’s commitment to reducing the overall cost of governance.
Among the changes outlined in the report, the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) is set to merge with the Voice of Nigeria (VON), consolidating resources and streamlining operations in the broadcasting sector.
The move underscores the government’s commitment to optimizing resources and enhancing efficiency in public service delivery. As Nigeria navigates economic challenges, initiatives such as the adoption of the Orosanye Report represent proactive measures to promote fiscal responsibility and effective governance.
