The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, announced on Thursday that a new curriculum for secondary schools across Nigeria will be introduced by September 2024. This announcement was made during the 2024 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board policy meeting in Abuja.
“We are working hard to ensure that a new curriculum is introduced for secondary schools by September,” Mamman stated. The minister explained that the development of the new curriculum has been underway for the past year, and a stakeholders meeting is scheduled for August 6, 2024, to finalize the plans.
The new curriculum will be implemented in all public and private secondary schools nationwide starting September, according to Mamman.
Recently, the National Senior Secondary School Education Commission highlighted several challenges facing senior secondary schools in Nigeria, including infrastructural deficits, unqualified teachers, an outdated curriculum, and inadequate libraries and laboratories. The commission has called for collaboration to address these issues and improve the quality of secondary education in the country.
