Col. (Dr.) Ogbe Joehness Omoruyi (Rtd) is a distinguished physician, visionary leader, and retired Nigerian Army officer who has left an indelible mark on military and civilian medical practice. A Consultant Plastic Surgeon and Medical Director/Chief Executive Officer of Cynosure Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in Lagos, Dr. Omoruyi exemplifies excellence in healthcare delivery, management, and surgical innovation.

Born on March 20, 1974, in Ebelle, Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State, he began his academic journey at Olua Primary School, Benin City, and later attended Eghosa Grammar School. In 1993, he was admitted to the University of Benin, where he graduated with an MBBS degree in 2000, earning recognition as the Best Student in Internal Medicine (1998/1999) and the Third Best Overall Graduating Medical Student in his class.

Dr. Omoruyi enlisted in the Nigerian Army Medical Corps on April 3, 2001, and was commissioned as a Lieutenant after training at the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna. Rising to Colonel, he served in key military operations, including UNAMSIL in Sierra Leone, UNMIL in Liberia, and multiple tours in Nigeria’s Northeast during Operations Zaman Lafiya, Lafiya Dole, and Hadin Kai. His military career spanned 21 years, culminating in his Chief Consultant Plastic Surgeon role, before retiring voluntarily in 2022.

His leadership roles within the military were extensive. He served as Commander of Military Hospitals in Monguno, Maiduguri, and Benin and Director of Monitoring and Evaluation at the Nigerian Army Medical Corps. Renowned for his surgical expertise, he performed critical life- and limb-saving surgeries for troops, police personnel, and civilians under challenging conditions, solidifying his legacy as a dependable and skilled professional.

His extensive training and fellowships reflect Dr. Omoruyi’s pursuit of excellence. He completed a Plastic Surgery Residency at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Lagos (2006–2012), a fellowship with the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery (2011), and the International Facial Plastic Surgery Fellowship at Erasmus Medical Centre, Rotterdam, Netherlands—the first African to be invited to this prestigious program. His global experience also includes advanced training in microsurgery, trauma management, and aesthetic surgical techniques.

As a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS), Dr. Omoruyi is an active member of the Nigerian Association of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgeons (NAPRAS) and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). His scholarly contributions include numerous research publications, and his innovative surgical techniques have earned him locally and internationally acclaim.

Dr. Omoruyi’s achievements have garnered numerous awards, including the Plastic Surgery Foundation Scholarship (USA, 2017), the Dove Health Care Award for Most Outstanding Plastic Surgery Hospital (2023), the Development in Nigeria Merit Award (2023), and military honors such as the Meritorious Service Star (MSS) and the Field Command Medal. His exceptional leadership and contributions were also recognized when he was nominated for the Chief of Army Staff Award (2017).
