Dr. Priscilia Uhuanmwen Imade is an exceptionally accomplished optometrist. Indeed, she is one of the leading lights of the optometry profession in Nigeria.

Imade is an eminently qualified professional who possesses  a Doctor of Optometry degree  (1999), an MSc. Public Health (2010) and a Ph.D. in Public Health (2019), across three universities in Nigeria and South America. She is a Fellow of the Nigerian Optometric Association (FNOA) and a Member of the America Academy of Optometry, USA.

She has attended and participated in many local and international conferences, workshops, and seminars. Though acquired at a high personal cost, her repertoire of skills has been shared freely with many other optometrists through her training of interns and presentations at Nigerian Optometric Association conferences, educating and advancing optometry practice nationally and internationally.

Dr. Priscilia Imade has extended her eye care knowledge to the general populace through advocacies and public education. With her Ph.D. in Public Health, she is very research-oriented and eager to change her world through targeted public health and eye care research. With notable publications to her credit, her other areas of interest include media advocacy, public education, and local and international presentations. Recently, she authored a book titled EYECARE THE RIGHT WAY: A SIMPLE GUIDE. This book was compiled from her repertoire of knowledge and practice of Optometry for over two and a half decades. It is available on Amazon and Selar.

She is the immediate past Chairperson of Women Optometrists in Nigeria, Lagos State Chapter, and currently the National Secretary of Women Optometrists in Nigeria (National). She is also the immediate past Assistant National Secretary of the Nigerian Optometric Association and the Vice President of Optometry in the Health Care Providers Association of Nigeria. Through the different portfolios, Priscilia occupies in the eye care industry, she has made guest appearances in other media agencies, discussing eye health and the prevention of avoidable blindness in Nigeria.

Dr. Imade reviews publications, books, newspapers, bulletins, and magazines. She is dynamic and proactive, can transmit knowledge through training courses, and provides public health consultancy services through several visible platforms. An organizer of several occupational health, safety, and eye health talks/seminars/workshops for various institutions, organizations (local and international), schools, churches, and clubs, she provides consultancy services and occupational eye health and safety for several driving schools and multinational companies. These have contributed to creating awareness of eye health, advocating how much and how well a good knowledge of preventing visual impairments can benefit society. Dr. Imade has also received several recognition awards for her invaluable contributions.

Priscilia Imade is an on-air personality with regular eye health programs across different media houses in Nigeria. She features weekly (Thursdays at 4:30 pm) on the program tagged “Eyes on the Road”, a premium program on Lagos Traffic Radio 96.1 FM in Lagos State.  She anchored Eye Care with Dr. Priscilia Imade on Lagos State Television, Eye Care on Bumper Breakfast on Murhi International Television, and Eye Care Guest on Star 101.5 FM.  On Dove Media Television, she is featured in the program Healthy Living, where she anchors the Eye-Health Segment. She has been featured as a guest on Channels Television, Television Continental, Galaxy Television, and several other media houses in Nigeria, where she regularly educates the public on eye care and eye health and writes a weekly column titled “Eye Care with Dr. Priscilia Imade” for the Frontier Online Newspaper.

As a public health consultant in health education and promotion, Dr. Imade’s desire and passion for keeping the populace informed about eye health to prevent visual impairments or complete blindness motivated her to reach out to the public and occupational institutions on eye health enlightenment campaigns. Her regular seminars on “Children Vision Care,” “School Vision Screening Programme,” “Driving and Eye Care,” and “Eye Care for the Elderly,” organized for students, workers, motorists, and elders, have made her very popular in her community.

As the Chief Executive Officer and Consultant Optometrist at Modern Eye Clinic and Chairperson of Modern Eye Care Foundation, Lagos State, Nigeria, she has used both platforms to promote her vision in preventive and curative eye care by offering beneficial vision care services to the public. She has used both platforms to train several students, externs, interns, and young optometrists.

Her zeal for writing and research propelled her into authoring, co-authoring, and publishing. She is a peer reviewer with The Public Library of Science. An insatiable quest for learning and re-learning, as well as mentoring optometrists, led to her training in the Family of Optometric Mentors, an affiliate and educational arm of the Nigerian Optometric Association.

Dr. Imade is currently a certified FOM platinum mentor. She is a seasoned optometrist who has practiced optometry for over two decades (twenty-five years). She has trained and mentored hundreds of optometrists.

It was in recognition of her immense contribution to nation building in the area of Optometry and Eye Care Services in Nigeria that Dr. Priscilia Uhuanmwen Imade was deemed worthy to be conferred with the Nigerian Achievement Award.
