Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has expressed his readiness to work with Labour Party’s Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general elections. Mohammed made this declaration on Thursday when he received the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate at the Government House in Bauchi.

The two leaders held a closed-door meeting that lasted for over an hour at Ramat House, followed by a press briefing where Mohammed hinted at possible political collaboration, though no formal alliance was confirmed.

“As a person, I am ready to work with Peter Obi and ensure we come together, close ranks, and bring good governance to the country,” Mohammed said. “We will provide a vibrant opposition with knowledge, timeliness, and vision to help rescue and recover our country from the mediocre who are parading themselves as leaders.”

The Bauchi governor also suggested that his fellow People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governors support this movement, describing it as a “transcendental journey.”

“We will take it up and move it forward in a way that, going forward, you will see more joint efforts between us, Governor Obi, the PDP Governors, and the PDP as a party,” he stated.

During the meeting, Mohammed and Obi discussed key national issues, including governance challenges in Rivers State. The governor praised Obi’s deep understanding of national matters, saying, “We in the PDP have always admired him. Behind the scenes, I have been meeting with him. This is not the first time.”

Speaking on the visit, Peter Obi explained that his purpose was to engage in consultations on national issues and explore solutions to Nigeria’s challenges.

“I came here basically to discuss our dear country, to consult with Governor Mohammed, being the chair of the PDP Governors Forum and a critical figure in Nigeria’s politics today,” Obi said.

The former Anambra governor stressed the importance of focusing on national issues, particularly the challenges facing northern Nigeria.

“The North is a critical component if we are going to get it right in this country,” Obi noted. He emphasized the need for investment in agriculture and poverty alleviation, urging leaders to focus on real issues rather than distractions.

While no formal political merger was announced, the meeting signals a growing alliance between opposition leaders as Nigeria moves toward the 2027 general elections.
