In the wake of deadly attacks on Zikke and Kimakpa communities in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, Governor Caleb Mutfwang convened an expanded state security council meeting on Monday to address the worsening security situation.

The meeting, held at the Council Chamber of the Government House in Jos, focused on the recent resurgence of violence in Bassa and Bokkos LGAs. The governor and security stakeholders discussed urgent, decisive measures aimed at restoring peace and preventing further bloodshed across the state.

According to Governor Mutfwang, over 100 armed militiamen stormed the affected communities in the early hours of Monday, leaving a trail of devastation. At least 51 residents were confirmed dead, with numerous homes reportedly set ablaze.

“We are on top of the situation and will go to any length to forestall a recurrence,” Mutfwang assured Plateau citizens during the meeting.

The governor is expected to provide further details on the incident and the government’s response during a state broadcast scheduled for Tuesday, April 15, 2025.

The attacks have sparked widespread concern and calls for enhanced security presence in vulnerable areas of the state.
