The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted a mix of thunderstorms, sunshine, and hazy conditions across various parts of the country from Monday to Wednesday.

In its three-day weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, NiMet stated that slight dust haze is expected over the northern region, with chances of afternoon or evening thunderstorms in parts of Adamawa, Taraba, and Kaduna States. The North Central region is expected to experience sunny skies with patches of clouds and isolated thunderstorms in Plateau, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Niger, Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi, and Benue States during the afternoon and evening hours.

In the southern part of the country, cloudy skies are forecast with a likelihood of isolated morning thunderstorms in Cross River and Akwa Ibom States, while isolated thunderstorms are anticipated later in the day across most parts of the region.

On Tuesday, NiMet predicts sunny and hazy conditions over the northern region, with the possibility of afternoon or evening thunderstorms in Kaduna, Taraba, and Adamawa. The North Central region will continue to experience sunny skies with some cloud cover and isolated thunderstorms in parts of Kogi, the FCT, Nasarawa, Kwara, Plateau, and Benue States during the afternoon and evening.

In the southern region, cloudy skies with sunny intervals are expected, along with morning thunderstorms in Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Cross River States. Thunderstorms are likely to occur across most southern states later in the day.

By Wednesday, the northern region is expected to maintain sunny conditions, with isolated thunderstorms in Sokoto, Kebbi, Kaduna, Taraba, and Adamawa States during the afternoon or evening. The North Central region will likely experience sunny skies with patches of clouds in the morning and possible isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening. In the southern states, morning thunderstorms are expected in Delta, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom, with more thunderstorms anticipated across most parts of the region as the day progresses.

NiMet also warned of high temperatures across much of the country, advising the public to take precautions against heat stress. It recommended staying in well-ventilated, cool spaces, drinking plenty of water, and avoiding direct sun exposure, especially between noon and 3 p.m. Additionally, the agency urged residents to maintain good hygiene, wash hands frequently, avoid overcrowded areas, and wear nose masks to reduce the risk of infection. Airline operators were also advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for effective flight planning and safety.
