The Anambra State House of Assembly has suspended Bernard Udemezue, the member representing Ayamelum Constituency, for three months over a social media post deemed “damaging” to the legislature.
Udemezue, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker, had alleged on his social media platforms that his constituency was being sidelined in the disbursement of constituency allowances.
The matter was first raised at plenary last Tuesday by Tony Muobike, member representing Aguata 2 Constituency, and was seconded by Chief Whip Jude Ngobili of Ihiala 1 Constituency. Speaker Somtochukwu Udeze subsequently referred the issue to the House Committee on Rules, Business, Ethics and Privileges for investigation.
At Tuesday’s plenary, the committee presented its findings, which prompted the House to adopt a resolution suspending Udemezue for three months.
