The Benue State House of Assembly has suspended four members for six months over an alleged attempt to impeach the Speaker, Aondona Dajoh.
Those suspended are Alfred Berger (Makurdi North), Terna Shimawua (Kian), Cyril Ekong (Obi), and James Umoru (Apa).
The decision followed a motion of urgent importance moved by Majority Leader Saater Tiseer, who accused the lawmakers of trying to plunge the assembly into crisis with what he described as a needless impeachment attempt.
After the motion was adopted, Speaker Dajoh ordered the Sergeant-at-Arms to escort the affected members out of the chamber. He also announced Audu Elias as the new spokesperson of the House, replacing Berger, who previously held the position.
