Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has adjourned the arraignment of human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, to October 27, 2025, following delays in the service of charges.
The arraignment, initially slated for Tuesday, could not proceed after Sowore’s counsel, Marshal Abubakar, informed the court that his client had not been served with the five-count charge of alleged cybercrime. Counsel representing Meta (Facebook) Inc. also raised similar concerns, noting that he had only just received service in court.
During the proceedings, the Director of Public Prosecution from the Ministry of Justice said the government was ready to arraign Sowore, alongside X Corporation and Meta (Facebook) Inc., as first to third respondents in the case.
Sowore is accused of using his official X handle to make an offensive post on August 25, an alleged offence under Section 24(2)(b) of the Cybercrimes Prohibition and Prevention Act 2024.
Justice Umar subsequently adjourned the matter until October 27 to allow for proper service of the charges on all defendants.
