President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally written to the Senate requesting the screening and confirmation of new senior military appointments, marking a critical step in restructuring Nigeria’s security leadership.
In a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary, the President proposed the following nominees for confirmation:
-
General Olufemi Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff
-
Major-General Waheedi Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff
-
Rear Admiral Idi Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff
-
Air Vice Marshal Kennedy Aneke as Chief of Air Staff
-
Major-General Emmanuel Undiendeye as Chief of Defence Intelligence
The letter asked the Senate to give “expeditious consideration” to the appointments, which have already taken effect, and the matter has been referred to the Committee of the Whole for immediate screening.
