Dr. Adeoye Adeyinka Mutalib is a distinguished and versatile mental health and social care expert with over 16 years of extensive experience in counselling, mental health services, substance use treatment, and social work practice. Driven by a deep commitment to the well-being of Nigeria’s most vulnerable citizens, he has become a leading figure in bridging the gap between clinical expertise and compassionate community support. As the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Shayofunmi Care Agency, he spearheads holistic care and rehabilitation services for individuals battling mental health challenges and substance abuse disorders.

Adeoye, an indegene of Ode Aje in Ibadan began his educational journey at I.M.G Ode Aje (1983–1989) and Holy Trinity Grammar School, Old Ife Road,Ibadan before earning a Certificate in Education for the Gifted and Talented from Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo, and a Bachelor’s in Counselling and Physics from the University of Ilorin.

A relentless scholar, Adeoye pursued advanced training in the United Kingdom, securing a Postgraduate Qualification in Clinical and Community Psychology from the University of East London (2014), an NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care from Seva Care, Hounslow, and became an International Certified Addiction Professional (ICAP) in 2018. Upon returning to Nigeria, he earned an MSc in Social Work (Healthcare) from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), a second Master’s in Counselling from the University of Lagos (2021), and recently completed a Doctorate in Social Work (DSW) with specialization in Medical and Public Health at Lagos State University (LASU) in the 2023/24 session.

His work experience encompasses diverse and critical roles within the mental health sector, including expertise in geriatric care, forensic psychiatry, drug rehabilitation, and child and adolescent mental health services. Through his leadership at the Shayofunmi Care Agency, Dr. Adeoye has achieved significant, tangible impact, having successfully rehabilitated over 500 Nigerian youths battling drug dependency and psychological difficulties.

Beyond clinical work, he is a prolific researcher and author, contributing valuable scholarly publications to national and international journals, with recent work focusing on institutional factors influencing Discharge Against Medical Advice (DAMA) among patients with Substance Use Disorders. Dr. Adeoye is also a committed philanthropist and community advocate who has empowered over 300 elderly individuals within his community and state, championing sustainable community development and the upliftment of vulnerable populations.
