Dr. Zainabu Mudasiru is a compassionate paediatrician and a true visionary. From the young age of nine, she carried a singular, burning ambition to become a doctor, a goal she successfully achieved. Born and raised in Lagos, though originally from Niger State, she is the dedicated Clinical Lead at Babies Matter Medical Centre in Lagos —a place where the most vulnerable little lives find their champions.

Her journey to specialization included completing her A levels in the UK before undergoing her medical school training at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos. She returned to the UK for her paediatric training. There she also developed extensive knowledge and specialized skills in the subspecialty of Neonatology. Her global experience is further highlighted by her time working as the Head of the Neonatal Unit in a hospital in South Africa.

Driven by her profound passion for caring for newborn babies, especially premature infants, Dr. Mudasiru was moved to action by the devastating knowledge that Nigeria has one of the highest rates of Neonatal mortality in the world. This reality prompted her to leave behind the life she had grown accustomed to in the UK, packing her bags and returning to Lagos in November 2023.

She is the co-founder of Babies Matter Medical Centre in Lagos, an Advanced Neonatal Care Centre. Dr.  Zainabu Mudasiru and her team understand the critical importance of proper management for premature babies from the second they are born to achieve good outcomes. To date, they have successfully managed many premature babies with gestations as low as 25 weeks, all of whom have survived, gone home, and are doing well. Seeing the great work they are doing and its positive impact on families, they are actively looking to expand their unit to have a greater capacity to manage even more premature babies.

It was in recognition of her accomplishments and contribution to national development in the sphere of Human Medicine (Paediatrics) that Dr. Zainabu Mudasiru was deemed worthy to be conferred with the Woman of Merit Gold Award.
