The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday formally issued expulsion certificates to 11 prominent members, including former governors Nyesom Wike and Ayodele Fayose, in what the party describes as a sweeping cleanup ahead of the 2027 elections.
The certificates were presented during a meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja, where newly affirmed NWC chairman Kabiru Turaki officially took charge following the party’s recent national convention in Ibadan.
The expelled group includes former national officers such as Samuel Anyanwu, Umaru Bature, and Kamarudeen Ajibade (SAN). Their removal, the party said, follows findings of “anti-party activities” that violated the PDP’s constitution and undermined internal cohesion.
Turaki explained that the expulsion certificates serve an important legal function, providing formal documentation that allows the affected individuals to join other political parties without breaching laws prohibiting dual membership.
List of Expelled Members:
- Nyesom Wike
- Ayodele Fayose
- Samuel Anyanwu
- Umaru Bature
- Kamarudeen Ajibade (SAN)
- Abdurahman Muhammad
- Mao Ohuabunwa
- Austin Nwachukwu
- Abraham Amah Nnanna
- George Turna
- Dan Orbih
The PDP leadership urged institutions—including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and the general public—to cease recognising the expelled members as party affiliates. Turaki warned that individuals or organisations that engage with them in the name of the PDP “do so at his or her own risk.”
According to the NWC, the mass expulsion is part of a wider effort to restore discipline, rebuild structures, and reposition the party as it prepares for the 2027 general election.
