The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed that 33 people were killed in an attack on Bui District in Arewa Local Government Area, Kebbi State, following a violent cattle-rustling incident.
Spokesperson Bashir Usman said additional security personnel had been deployed in collaboration with the military and other agencies, with sustained patrols underway to restore order.
Preliminary investigations indicate that suspected Lakurawa militants crossed into the area from Sokoto State to rustle cattle. Residents from neighbouring communities reportedly mobilised, leading to a deadly confrontation.
Local sources said the attackers stormed villages and opened fire indiscriminately, forcing many residents to flee.
The police expressed condolences to victims’ families and urged residents to report suspicious activities rather than confront armed criminals. Security operations to track and arrest the perpetrators are ongoing.
