Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have killed the father of former Ebonyi State Deputy Governor, Kelechi Igwe, after abducting him in Ikwo Local Government Area of the state.
The victim, Chief Francis Igwe, a traditional ruler of Ndufu-Alike community, was reportedly kidnapped while on his way to church when armed men intercepted him and took him to an unknown destination.
Security operatives launched a search operation following the abduction, but the monarch was later confirmed dead.
Police authorities in Ebonyi State said nine suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime. The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue.
