Vice President Kashim Shettima has commended the Gates Foundation for its sustained investments and humanitarian support in Nigeria, describing it as a key partner in the country’s development drive.
Shettima gave the commendation on Wednesday while receiving a delegation of the foundation led by Hari Menon at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
He pledged the Federal Government’s support to deepen collaboration with the foundation, particularly in digital transformation, nutrition, agriculture, and healthcare.
“The Gates Foundation remains our strategic partner in the drive to change the Nigerian narrative,” the Vice President said, noting that its contributions span human capital development, health systems, and agriculture.
Shettima also emphasised the need to boost agricultural productivity through modern technologies, improved seeds, and better farm management, describing Nigeria as a country with vast untapped potential.
Earlier, Menon said the delegation was in Nigeria to expand its partnership with the government and private sector, supporting reforms aimed at long-term economic transformation.
He highlighted the foundation’s focus on reducing maternal and child mortality, combating infectious diseases, and promoting inclusive economic growth, adding that Nigeria’s progress could serve as a model for other developing countries.
The meeting underscores ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration between Nigeria and global development partners in key sectors of the economy.
