The Federal Government has filed a 13-count charge before the Federal High Court in Abuja against six individuals over an alleged plot to wage war against Nigeria.

The defendants—two retired senior military officers, a serving police inspector, and three others—are to be arraigned on April 22 before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik. Also listed as at large is former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva.

Filed by the Office of the Attorney-General and signed by Director of Public Prosecutions Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), the charges include treason, terrorism, failure to disclose intelligence, and money laundering linked to terrorism financing.

Prosecutors allege the defendants conspired in 2025 to overthrow the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and had prior knowledge of the plot but failed to report or prevent it. Some were also accused of attending meetings tied to the alleged conspiracy.

The charge further claims the defendants provided support for terrorism and handled funds linked to its financing, including large cash sums held outside formal financial channels.
