President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated that his administration’s infrastructure drive and economic reforms are designed to enhance the well-being and prosperity of Nigerians.

Speaking on Saturday during the inauguration of the Gateway Cargo International Airport in Iperu—constructed under the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun—the President emphasized that ongoing investments are people-centered and aimed at building a prosperous future.

“Our investment is about our people. The infrastructure underscores our faith in our country, the belief that today’s foundation is for tomorrow’s prosperity,” Tinubu said.

The President also unveiled two new aircraft for the state-owned Gateway Airline, describing the airport as a critical addition to Nigeria’s aviation and logistics infrastructure. He noted that the facility is powered independently, reflecting deliberate investment in the energy sector.

Tinubu commended Governor Abiodun for his leadership and commitment to development, stating that the projects align with the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He highlighted improvements in mobility, security, and agriculture in the state, alongside the launch of 1,000 electric bikes, security vehicles, and tractors.

Describing the introduction of electric bikes as a forward-looking initiative, the President said embracing technology over fossil fuels is key to modern transportation and sustainable development.

He also praised Nigerians for their continued support for the All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that recent economic reforms have increased resources available to state governments. According to him, many governors are now utilizing these funds effectively for development.

The President further lauded the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for initiatives aimed at improving ease of doing business and staff welfare. During the visit, Tinubu commissioned a Customs Hub comprising barracks, a training college, a warehouse, and a hospital.

In his remarks, Governor Abiodun described the President’s visit as historic and symbolic of his commitment to national development. He credited Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda with steering Nigeria toward economic recovery, fiscal discipline, and sustainable growth.

The governor highlighted key reforms such as the unification of the foreign exchange rate, removal of fuel subsidy, and public finance restructuring, noting that these measures have boosted investor confidence and attracted foreign direct investment.

He also pointed to initiatives including the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Programme, NELFUND, ongoing rail modernization, and major highway projects like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and Badagry-Sokoto Highway as evidence of a strategic economic reset.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who was present at the event, commended Tinubu’s democratic credentials and reiterated the National Assembly’s role in strengthening democracy. He called for the decentralization of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to improve the country’s power sector.

Akpabio also praised Tinubu’s emphasis on internally generated revenue (IGR), noting that reforms have empowered states financially and reduced reliance on borrowing.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, speaking on behalf of the people of Ogun State, expressed appreciation for Tinubu’s leadership. Reflecting on the state’s creation 50 years ago, Obasanjo noted the remarkable progress achieved through successive administrations.

Several top government officials attended the event, including Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Bosun Tijani, and Central Bank Governor Olayemi Cardoso. Governors from several states and traditional rulers were also in attendance.
