The United States Africa Command has confirmed carrying out additional joint kinetic strikes with the Nigerian government against Islamic State of Iraq and Syria targets in northeastern Nigeria.

AFRICOM disclosed on Monday that no American or Nigerian personnel were harmed during the operations, adding that intelligence assessments confirmed the targets were ISIS militants.

The command stated that further assessments of the strikes were ongoing, noting that the operation would reduce the group’s ability to plan attacks threatening the security of the United States and its partners.

AFRICOM also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting allied nations through specialised military capabilities aimed at combating shared security threats.

The latest strikes come days after President Donald Trump announced that American forces, working alongside the Nigerian Armed Forces, carried out an operation that killed Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, described as the second-in-command of ISIS globally.
