The House of Representatives has appointed Frederick Agbedi, member representing Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency of Bayelsa State, as the new Minority Leader.

Agbedi emerged following the resignation of former Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

His nomination was conveyed to the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, in a letter from the minority caucus and read during plenary on Thursday.

The caucus also announced Hon. Mansur Soro as Minority Whip and Hon. Abdussamad Dasuki as Deputy Minority Leader, following a consensus among opposition lawmakers.

Congratulating the new principal officers, Abbas said their appointments completed the House leadership structure and wished them success in their new roles.

A ranking lawmaker, Agbedi has represented Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency since 2011. As Minority Leader, he will coordinate opposition lawmakers and articulate the position of minority parties on legislative matters in the House.
