The Defence Headquarters’ Joint Task Force North West, under Operation Fansan Yamma, has launched a major offensive, codenamed Operation Clean Sweep III, targeting terrorists and bandits in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State and surrounding communities.
The operation was initiated following the abduction and subsequent death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, who was kidnapped alongside his wife by suspected bandits.
In a statement issued by the task force’s spokesperson, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, troops have carried out intelligence-led raids, fighting patrols, cordon-and-search operations, and clearance missions since the operation began on June 14.
The military said significant gains have been recorded, including the destruction of terrorist hideouts, logistics bases, and support structures in Dikkawa Hills, Adua, Nasarawa, and Karaduwa communities.
The task force noted that the operation is being conducted in collaboration with other security agencies and local stakeholders, adding that efforts will continue until criminal groups are neutralised and security is fully restored.
