Three passengers have been confirmed dead following the derailment of the Warri–Itakpe Train Service (WITS) at Agbor, Delta State, on Monday.

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) said emergency response teams were immediately deployed to the scene to assist affected passengers, while investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.

NRC Managing Director, Kayode Opeifa, confirmed the incident and assured that the corporation is closely monitoring developments.

The Presidency also confirmed the fatalities, stating that all passengers on board had been accounted for and that support was being provided to those affected.

The incident occurred barely a month after the NRC temporarily suspended operations on the Warri–Itakpe corridor to carry out technical assessments aimed at improving safety and service reliability.
