Nigeria delivered an average of 2.05 billion cubic feet of gas per day in the first half of 2026, meeting only 65 per cent of its Domestic Gas Delivery Obligation (DGDO) target of 3.16 billion cubic feet per day, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has disclosed.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ workshop in Abuja, NUPRC Chief Executive, Oritsemiyewa Eyesan, said only 23 of the 27 companies allocated domestic gas supply obligations were actively delivering gas, highlighting a significant gap in domestic supply.

To address the shortfall, the commission unveiled a proposed Gas Swap Framework that will allow producers facing infrastructure or evacuation constraints to meet their obligations through partnerships with operators that have existing gas transportation and delivery facilities.

The NUPRC said the framework is expected to improve domestic gas supply, support power generation and industrial growth, and strengthen confidence in Nigeria’s gas market through better collaboration among industry stakeholders.
