The Supreme Court has upheld the nomination of Ekiti State Governor Abiodun Oyebanji as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the June 20 governorship election, dismissing an appeal filed by aggrieved aspirant Abimbola Olawumi.

In a unanimous judgment delivered on Friday, a five-member panel of the apex court affirmed the earlier decision of the Court of Appeal, describing Olawumi’s appeal as lacking merit.

The court held that several of the appellant’s filings were incompetent, citing procedural defects, including an unsigned written address and non-compliance with the Supreme Court Rules.

Olawumi had challenged the APC primary, alleging she was prevented from participating as an aspirant and seeking to nullify Oyebanji’s nomination. However, the Supreme Court ruled that the suit was statute-barred and that the constitutional time limit for determining pre-election matters had already expired.
