The Edo State House of Assembly has elected Yekini Idiaye, representing Akoko Edo Constituency I, as its new Speaker following the resignation of Blessing Agbebaku.

Agbebaku’s resignation was formally acknowledged during Monday’s plenary, after which Idiaye was nominated by Sunday Ojiezele and seconded by Eric Okaka. The Clerk of the House administered his oath of office.

The Assembly also approved new leadership for its majority and minority caucuses, naming Ojiezele as Majority Leader, Ojie Inegbebor as Deputy Majority Leader and Natasha Osawaru as Minority Leader.

The changes usher in a new leadership structure in the eighth Edo Assembly.
