Manchester City secured a dramatic 1-0 victory over Manchester United in Sunday’s Manchester derby, while Arsenal maintained their perfect start to the Premier League season with a 2-0 win at Sunderland.

Erling Haaland scored the decisive goal at Old Trafford in the 60th minute after City had been reduced to 10 men following Phil Foden’s 23rd-minute dismissal for kicking out at Bruno Fernandes. United failed to capitalise on their numerical advantage, with Haaland’s goal ultimately giving City a hard-fought victory. VAR also played a major role after the goal was initially ruled out for offside before being overturned.

Arsenal, meanwhile, moved to the top of the table after beating Sunderland 2-0 to make it four wins from four matches. David Raya saved a penalty before Bruno Guimaraes opened the scoring, while Bukayo Saka converted a late penalty to seal the victory.

Liverpool were held to a goalless draw by Fulham at Anfield, while Chelsea also dropped points after being held 2-2 by newly promoted Hull City. Tottenham and Everton likewise shared the points following a 0-0 draw.

Brighton produced the biggest win of the weekend, thrashing Coventry City 5-0. Nottingham Forest secured a 2-1 away victory over Aston Villa, their first win at Villa Park in 32 years, while Ipswich Town defeated Crystal Palace 3-2.

Bournemouth and Brentford played out a 2-2 draw, leaving Brentford unbeaten after four matches.

The results left Arsenal and Manchester City level on 12 points, with Arsenal ahead on goal difference. Liverpool’s dropped points further opened the race at the top, while Manchester United remained on four points after their derby defeat.
