Dr. Promise Otovwe Ivongbe stands as a distinguished figure in Nigeria’s Optometry and Eye Care landscape. She is at once an accomplished optometrist, healthcare entrepreneur and visionary healthcare leader. Her commitment to preventive eye care, patient-centered healthcare delivery and community health continues to make significant contributions to the advancement of healthcare services in Nigeria.
Ivongbe is the Founder, Chief Executive Officer and Medical Director of Blossom Vision Services Ltd, operators of Vision Eye Clinic, a private optometry outfit located at the Games Village in Abuja. She is also Co-Founder of Blossom Vision Synergy Services Ltd through which she is building institutions dedicated to improving lives through excellence, innovation and service.
A graduate of the University of Benin, Dr. Ivongbe obtained the Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree in 2016 and is a registered practitioner with the Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria (ODORBN). Her professional foundation was built through internship training at De Lucia Eye Clinic, followed by her National Youth Service at Asokoro District Hospital, Abuja. She subsequently had clinical appointments at Rayfields Eye Care Ltd and Cypress Eye Centre. These experiences provided her with broad exposure to both public and private healthcare delivery and strengthened her commitment to improving access to timely, high-quality eye care.
Her resolve to establish Blossom Vision was shaped by her firsthand experience within Nigeria’s public healthcare system, where she witnessed patients with serious eye conditions waiting several months before receiving specialist attention. Convinced that preventable blindness should never result from delayed access to care, she founded Blossom Vision on the principles of timely intervention, compassionate service, clinical excellence and patient-centred care. Today, the practice has become recognised for providing not only quality eye care but also exceptional patient experience founded on empathy, respect and long-term relationships with patients and their families.
Under Dr. Ivongbe’s leadership, Blossom Vision has provided professional eye care services to more than 10,000 patients, helping individuals and families preserve and improve their vision through comprehensive eye examinations, early diagnosis, preventive care and appropriate clinical management. Recognising that eye health extends beyond the consulting room, she has consistently championed public awareness and preventive eye care through community outreach programmes, corporate eye health initiatives and health education campaigns aimed at reducing avoidable visual impairment.
Her commitment to community development is reflected in Blossom Vision’s partnership with Jewel Haven Initiative and other organisations to provide free eye screening services in underserved rural communities. She has also led workplace eye health screening and educational programmes for corporate organisations, including VFS Group Abuja, promoting healthy vision and preventive eye care among working professionals. Through these initiatives, she has continued to extend quality eye care to populations that might otherwise have limited access to specialist services.
Her contributions to the profession received early recognition when she was honoured with an Appreciation Award by the Nigerian Optometric Association at its Annual General Meeting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State in July 2016. That was in recognition of her diligent and tireless efforts towards advancing the growth of optometric practice in Nigeria. The award, presented under the leadership of the Association’s then National President, Dr. Damian Echendu, reflected the promise and dedication that have continued to define her professional journey.
Dr. Ivongbe has equally demonstrated a strong commitment to developing future healthcare professionals. Blossom Vision has served as a practical training centre for optometry interns, many of whom have received clinical mentorship, professional guidance and practical experience under her leadership before proceeding into independent practice. She considers mentoring young professionals an important investment in the future of eye care in Nigeria.
Professionally, Dr. Ivongbe is an active member of the Nigerian Optometric Association (NOA), Women Optometrists in Nigeria (WON) and Junior Chamber International (JCI). She currently serves on the Welfare Committee of Women Optometrists in Nigeria and also leads the Medical Unit of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, where she continues to demonstrate her commitment to humanitarian service and community healthcare.
Committed to continuous learning and institutional excellence, Dr. Ivongbe has completed executive training in Leadership and Management in Health and Project Management in Global Health through the University of Washington Department of Global Health. She has also undertaken specialised training in Diabetic Eye Disease: Strengthening Services through the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, alongside certifications in Health, Safety and Environment and other leadership and professional development programmes. She is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Health Economics and Healthcare Management, strengthening her expertise in healthcare leadership, strategy and sustainable health systems.
In addition to her work in healthcare, she is the Co-Founder of Blossom Vision Synergy Services Ltd, an Abuja-based security services company established to provide professional security solutions while creating employment opportunities. Together with her husband, she is also developing other business ventures that contribute to economic growth and national development.
Driven by a long-term vision for healthcare transformation, Dr. Ivongbe is currently leading the strategic expansion of Blossom Vision into a multidisciplinary healthcare group where individuals and families can conveniently access comprehensive, high-quality healthcare services across multiple medical specialties under one roof. Her vision is to build an institution that not only reduces preventable blindness but also sets a new standard for integrated, compassionate and patient-centred healthcare in Nigeria.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Dr. Ivongbe is a woman of deep Christian faith whose leadership philosophy is founded on servant leadership, compassion and integrity. She believes that effective leadership is measured not by authority but by the ability to serve, empower and create opportunities for others to grow. This philosophy has shaped both the culture of Blossom Vision and her relationships with patients, colleagues and the wider community.
Dr. Ivongbe successfully combines a demanding professional career with a fulfilling family life. She is happily married and a devoted mother whose family continues to inspire her commitment to service, excellence and nation building.
It is in recognition of her Sterling Accomplishments in Optometry and Eye Care Services in Nigeria that Dr. Promise Otovwe Ivongbe is deemed worthy to be conferred with the Woman of Merit Gold Award.
